Traditional cartography communicates fixed geographical, political and economical information. Borders form dividing lines between regions, and citizens are no more than abstract groups of data. But whenever you visit an unfamiliar town, you soon realize the map you used to get there could never have prepared you for what you were going to encounter. Mapping for Tourists maps the invisible in Amsterdam Noord. The real situation and people, rather than statistical information. The project by Mediamatic, in collaboration with national and international artists and designers, consists of an exhibition and a tourist guide, to be launched September 4th.

Dutch Design Double 2010
